Rubicon™ 2.0 Released

Palo Alto, CA (10/06/98): Tamarack Associates announced today the immediate availability of Rubicon 2.0, a full text search engine for Borland Delphi and C++ Builder. Rubicon 2 now supports Delphi 4 and is compatible with leading Borland Database Engine (BDE) replacements.

Rubicon technology performs full text searches thousands of times faster than conventional search strategies* by indexing all the words in a database or set of documents. The end user is then able to perform searches by simply typing in words or phrases. Rubicon supports And, Or, Near, Not, and Like search logic, wildcards, and searches may be iteratively narrowed or widened. Search results may be used to filter the search table, navigate to matching records, or to create a match or answer table in natural or rank order.

As a database search engine, Rubicon can index records stored in table formats supported by the BDE (Inprise Corp.), Advantage Database Server (Extended Systems), Apollo (Luxent Development Corp.), DBISAM (Elevate Software), FlashFiler (TurboPower Software Co.), InterBase Objects, and Titan Access (Reggatta Systems). Tamarack Associates is with working with other third party vendors to expand the list of supported database engines.

Compatibility with SQL databases has been significantly improved as Rubicon 2 provides a set of TQuery based drivers. Result sets may be created in any of the supported table formats as well as in a TClientDataSet.

In addition to indexing databases, Rubicon can also index text, RTF, and HTML documents.

The handling of searches involving words with international characters has been significantly improved. Rubicon 2 can be configured so that a search for "resume" will return not only "resume", but "résumé" as well.

Version 2.0 includes two visual controls. Search hints displays a list of words and the number of occurrences of the word in the database as the user enters a query. This may be combined with on the fly search execution to provide complete real time feedback. The second control is a Rich Edit based component that highlights the matching words in a field or document.

Searches may be performed across multiple tables with the search controller component. The tables being searched need not have the same field structures.

Rubicon is the search engine used at the popular newsgroup search site, http://developers.href.com, where it is used to index several gigabytes of messages.

All the components are compatible with all versions of Delphi and C++ Builder. Source code is provided.

Rubicon 2 is priced at $299US and includes free 2.xx updates and support via email. Upgrade pricing is available for existing customers.
